The History of the District Court Nugegoda

Establishment: The Nugegoda District Court was established on 01.01.2008 as an Additional District Court of the Mount Lavinia District Court.

Jurisdiction: The jurisdiction of this Court has been allocated by the Extraordinary Gazette No. 1679/40 published on 10.11.2010. Cases within the jurisdiction of Nugegoda can be instituted in Mount Lavinia District Court, but cases within the jurisdiction of Mount Lavinia cannot be instituted in Nugegoda District Court.

Expansion and Infrastructure

  • Establishment of Additional Court: Due to the congestion of filing a large number of civil cases, an Additional District Court was also established in this Court from 01.01.2024.
  • Court House Modifications: The previous court house of the Nugegoda District Court was divided into two open courts by constructing a wall. No new construction was made, and accordingly, the area of the court house has not been changed.

  • Judicial Division of Gangodawila: Comprises the Grama Niladhari Divisions of Pitakotte East, Pitakotte, Pitakotte West, Nugegoda West, Pagoda, Nugegoda, Pagoda East, Gangodawila North, Gangodawila South, and Gangodawila East in the Divisional Secretary's Division of Sri Jayawardenepura.
  • Judicial Division of Maharagama: Comprises the Grama Niladhari Divisions of Mirihana South, Mirihana North, Madiwela, Depanama, Polwatta, Pamunuwa, Thalapathipitiya, Pragathipura, Udahamulla East, Udahamulla West, Pathiragoda, Maharagama East, Maharagama West, Dambahena, Pannipitiya North, Pannipitiya South, Maharagama Town, Godigamuwa South, Godigamuwa South B, Godigamuwa North, Wattegedara, Navinna, Wijerama, Gangodawila South B, and Jambugasnmulla in the Divisional Secretary's Division of Maharagama.
  • Judicial Division of Kesbewa: Comprises the Grama Niladhari Divisions of Pepiliyana West, Pepiliyana East, Divulapitiya East, Divulapitiya West, Bellanvila, Boralesgamuwa West A, Boralesgamuwa West C, Rattanapitiya, Egodawatta, Boralesgamuwa East A, Boralesgamuwa West B, Werahera North, Boralesgamuwa East B, Neelammahara, Kattuwawala North, Werahera South, Katuwawala South, Bodhirajapura, Erewawala West, Erewawala North, Erewawala East, Rathmaldeniya, Mahalwarawa, and Bangalavatta in the Divisional Secretary's Division of Kesbewa.
  • Judicial Division of Dehiwala: Comprises the Grama Niladhari Divisions of Sri Saranankara, Vilawala, Dutugemunu, Kohuwala, Kalubowila, and Hathbodhiya in the Divisional Secretary's Division of Dehiwala.
